Last night “Nelly The Snakeskin Woman” was aired on Channel 5 this powerful and moving documentary followed the life of a 33-year-old British female who suffers from a rare un treatable skin condition that causes her skin to grow at 10 times the normal rate.
Watching this intriguing documentary moved me to tears as I watched this powerful and moving documentary on how this young woman bravely goes about her daily life in a world where almost everything is judged on image. In one of the scenes where Nelly grants the cameras access in to her daily punishing routine of applying industrial strength moisturizer onto her skin that has already been meticulously removed by a carer. According to the doctors Nelly has become the world’s oldest survivor of this life-threatening disorder known as Harlequin Ichthyornis a condition that has claimed the lives of Nelly’s three other siblings, Due to this life-long condition Nelly lives her life encased from head to toe in thick layers of skin that threatens to stop her ability to breath.
